The Egg Hunt

One of my favorite things about the sweet, small(ish) town in NC that I live in is the adorable “bubble” of life that is Lake Norman.  We have an amazing neighborhood, with amazing people.  Year after year, we celebrate different events with fun get-togethers that have become “tradition” for us.  One of the traditions is an Easter egg hunt.  This year, one sweet little girl celebrated her two year birthday with a tea party and an egg hunt to follow.  And as usual, all of the tiny ”buddies” were together.   Here are some of the photos from our fun!

A Charming Little Christmas

Noooo! It’s already done? I feel like Christmas music just came on the radio…and already…it is gone?!? Though it did feel fast, it was a beautiful holiday season. Allow me to bombard you with pictures of our family fun!

This little guy had quite the obsession with Christmas lights.  I loved to watch him stare at them…he was in complete awe.

B helped get the tree up and loved every second of it.

Cookies were made and held a captive audience the entire time they baked.

Santa was visited…shockingly B hopped right onto his lap! (Though his face looked quite uncertain the entire time.)

Christmas cards took the place of the bags on B’s advent calendar.

And of course, I covered the house in decorations.  (Check out these cute tags I found on Etsy-I tied them all over my Christmas tree!)

We made “Reindeer Food.”

We wrote a letter to Santa (it was very interesting.) :)

Spent lots of time looking for reindeer in the sky.

And of course….the monograms!

I hope you all had a very merry holiday!

A Garland Advent Calendar

I remember the excitement I used to get from popping open the little cardboard door on my childhood advent calendar and discovering the candy surprise that awaited.  The little things like that are what create the ”magic” of the holiday season for kids.  I wanted to recreate that magic for B in a creative way.

So, I got busy hunting for some cute bags on Etsy.  I came across these adorable polka dot bags, green tags, and red twine.

I got busy, filling the bags with chocolate, then folding them into little envelopes.  I wrote the date on each tag.  I punched holes in each bag and secured the tag onto the bag with red twine.  I then hung more twine above our kitchen window and using white painted clothes pins, I hung each bag to the twine.  This created a “garland” effect, while keeping it out of reach of a sneaky two year old.  I love the way it turned out!

And clearly, so did B.  It was easy for him to rip the bag open.  When he did, he was ecstatic with what he saw.

Welcome, December!  Let the holiday fun begin!

Fourth of July-The Day Full of Red, White, and Blue Fun

Happy Fourth of July!!  We started our day off with a neighborhood parade (good grief…only I would wear pink shorts in a red, white, and blue parade), popsicles, and fun with friends…and it’s not over yet!  We hope you are having a wonderful holiday as well!!

It’s all about the gingham, baby…

The cherry blossoms are blooming, the sky is that perfect blue, and the weather is warm….it’s SPRING!  Finally!!!

This spring, I can’t get enough gingham.  It’s classic, preppy, clean…and just plain cute.  So, in honor of the daffodils, bumble bees, and crazy amount of pollen, here is a roundup of some of my favorite bits of gingham.

This adorable dessert table from “P is for Party” blog.

I am LOVING this precious little girl’s gingham bunny tee from Dixie Peaches Couture.  How cute would it be with a green hairbow?

Speaking of pink and green, these green gingham address labels are the perfect way to adorn your envelopes.

When I get on a kick like this, I always find a way to incorporate it into decor.  Check out the walls and ceiling of the following two rooms.  I could not have done it better myself.  :)   (And I am obsessing over that red striped chair.)

And finally, two items I am lusting over.  These blue gingham Miu Miu heels (I would so wear them with a white sundress) and these adorable J. Crew gingham shorts.  GOODBYE WINTER! :)

Goodbye, 2011…It’s Been a Fun Year.

2011…what a year it’s been.

I gathered pics of a few favorite moments (and projects) from the year.   May you all reflect on 2011 fondly and have an amazing start to 2012!  Happy New Year!

Merry and Bright

Ahhhh….welcome to my new blog.  I’ve made the transition to Wordpress and I now “own” my site.  Yaaaay!  I still have a lot to learn, but it’s a work in progress.  Also, it’s now easier for people to leave comments!  You don’t have to log in or have an account to comment.   So far, I’m happy with the transition.

I have been so busy with moving the blog that I barely even got to talk about Christmas this week!!!  We had so much fun.  Here are some pictures of my decorations.  (And I still have them up…I refuse to take them down till AFTER New Year’s!)

My husband finally hung my HUGE window pane mirror above the couch in our living room.  I hung my moss wreath from it by tacking the ribbon to the top of the window pane.

I made this centerpiece for our kitchen table.  I took a bunch of extra Christmas tree branches I had collected when we were at the Christmas tree farm and stuck them inside this old coal bucket I painted white.

I took one our family Christmas cards, punched holes in the sides, and tied it around the bucket with polka-dot ribbon.  I love the way it turned out!

I also started my mercury glass collection on the fireplace.  I added holly berries and strung Christmas lights around the glasses on the mantel…I love the effect! (And I managed to cut the ugly TV out of this picture.)

I have seen tons of creative ways people use clothespins in blogland.  Thanks everyone for the inspiration-I decided to use them to hang Christmas cards on twine across our kitchen window!  It had a cheery ”garland-like” feel to it.   I could see the pictures of my friends’ adorable kids/pooches/etc. easily (I spend every year trying to keep one card from covering another…I’m weird like that) and I was able to make it with things I found in my house.

And finally….our tree.  Good grief.  I love our tree and our decorations, but every single year we have a CROOKED star.  No joke, every year.  When we buy our tree, we always forget to ask the”tree people” to cut the top branch shorter to make it work with our star topper.  And this is what it looks like every year.  At this point, it is kind of just our thing…we are the people with the lopsided star.

Excuse the lighting…it’s hard to get a good picture at night.

Christmas morning….oh, what fun we had.  Briggs made a beeline for the slide…and just sat there.

As a matter of fact, he just kept sitting back and looking at everything.  (He held this pose for a few minutes…just trying to figure it all out.)

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday….and a late Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Make a Gift Tag out of a Christmas Ornament

Sometimes, the way a present is wrapped is as exciting as a gift itself. For a recent birthday party, I came up with this fun way to add a gift tag to the box.
I wrote the recipient’s name on a clear glass Christmas ornament with a kelly green paint marker. My original intention was to fill the inside of the ornament with snips from the birthday boy’s party invite. After that went terribly wrong, I curled tiny bits of lime green curling ribbon and put it inside the ornament. (The wrapping paper is actually brown craft paper, my latest obsession. More on that another time.)
I did have a bit of a blond moment by using a glass ornament. Seeing as how it was for a child’s birthday party, plastic would have been far more suitable. It did, however, make it into his mother’s hands safely. :) If you do try this for a child, I suggest using the plastic version of this type of ornament.
I know you are all up to your elbows in gift wrap and bows right now….this is the perfect, simple finishing touch!

The Cutest Christmas Cookie Swap You Ever Did See

A good friend of mine hosted a Christmas Cookie Swap for our group of friends. While it was traditional in that we each baked one type of cookie and brought enough for each attendee, there was a quirky spin-the hostess would be giving out awards for Best Packaging, First to RSVP, Most Unique Cookie, Cutest Apron, and the big one-Miss Gingerbread Golden Spatula. It was hilarious and so much fun….I just had to share it with you all!

I baked Lemon Lime Crackle Cookies. (Click the link to see the recipe.) They were good, but a bit of a pain to make. When you are baking that many cookies, the dough is hard to work with. I aimed for 156 cookies so each person would get 12, and after HOURS of baking I gave up and decided 6 per girl would suffice.

This is a snippet of my kitchen while the craziness was going on. Everything was covered in powdered sugar…even the dog.

My little taste tester (tasting his first “official” Christmas cookie ever.)

It was well received.
I packaged my cookies by stacking 6 cookies and wrapping them first in a green polka dot napkin for a whimsical pop of color and again with clear cellophane wrap. I tied the ends with red curling ribbon for a festive touch.
Some of the yummy cookies and cute packaging….

We all had so much fun! And yes, everyone wore their aprons.
Look at little “Miss Gingerbread” holding her Golden Spatula (seated on the ottoman.) The game is ON for next year, missy. :)
A huge thank you to Jackie for hosting the party-I haven’t laughed so hard in forever, and there is nothing that puts you in the Christmas spirit like having a good time with great friends.

Decorating with Christmas Ornaments

Hello there. Remember me? I have been lost in a sea of monograms. I am trying to decorate for the holidays, bake cookies, ship monograms…and I keep trying to figure out how my house got so messy. Fa la la la la!

But, nonetheless, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. And I have been hanging ornaments EVERYWHERE. I tied pink and green ornaments to coordinating ribbon and hung them from the tall bookshelf.

(The picture below was my inspiration picture.)

And I had the sweetest little helper the entire time I decorated!
